Go Luck Yourself by Sara Raasch follows in the steps of it’s predecessor with its cozy, Hallmark-y setup. It has that quirky royal premise, small-town charm, and an enemies-to-lovers romance. I was here for it. I remember the first book, despite dealing with generational trauma and abuse, containing a lot of lighthearted fun, so I settled in expecting more of the same.
And for the most part, it delivers exactly that. The story this time follows Kris, the other Christmas prince, as he investigates St. Patrick’s Day and their prince, Lochlann. Shenanigans, hijinks, and romance ensue.
This one’s definitely spicier than I remember the first book being, but the early and mid scenes actually worked for me. They didn’t feel gratuitous, and they kept with the flow of the story. The balance of chemistry mostly clicked.
However the ending kind of lost me. The narrative seems to be setting up our protagonist to finally be able to find his words and voice only to toss aside logic and momentum just to squeeze in one more explicit scene. Instead of feeling like the natural climax, it read like a spicy detour, distracting from what should have been the emotional payoff. It pulled me out of the story in the worst way, leaving the resolution feeling weaker than it should have.
This isn’t a bad book. If you’re here for the fun of the steamier side of romance, it’s definitely got its charm and you’ll probably vibe with it. For me, though, the final act stumble was hard to ignore. Sometimes less really is more.
