Have you ever dreamt of being the assistant for a world famous actress and then that world famous actress falling in love with you? I know I have more than once!
In the novel Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner that happens with some added mishaps in between. Emma Kaplan has been working with Hollywood actress turned script writer/show runner Jo Cheung for over a year building a strong working relationship as well as friendship. When Jo decides she doesn’t want to attend a red carpet event alone she invites Emma along for the ride. While there Emma starts to panic at all that was going on around her and in order to calm her down Jo makes a joke making Emma laugh. That scene was photographed by paparazzi causing rumors to fly about their relationship and a “source” confirming it all. Aww hell.
Stuck in the middle of a huge publicity crisis Emma wants nothing more than to squash those damn rumors because it has had quite the negative impact on her, with people thinking she only got her position by being with Jo, but Jo has always had one rule, she never comments on her dating life. Jo insists that they not make any kind of comments, for it’ll all settle down, spoiler alert it doesn’t.
Dealing with things like perceived workplace romance, an age gap, poor communication, bias against women in Hollywood, and the impact of media Emma and Jo navigate their budding feelings for each other.
